Consider the scenario in which we have a binary categorical variable with two possible outcomes: success and failure.
The variable is measured on a population and #\pi = \mathbb{P}(\text{Success})# is the proportion of successes in the population.
If we were to draw a random sample from this population, we could use a hypothesis test to test certain statements about the population proportion #\pi#.
